Modbus The Manual

Modbus The Manual

Rob Hulsebos, author of five books on industrial communication and cyber security, has written a book about the Modbus network protocol. Even after being on the market for some 30 years it is still the number 3 on the list of most-used industrial network protocols.

“Modbus the Manual” describes on 145 pages (A5) all aspects of this network, the OSI-model, wiring (RS-232, RS-485), message formats, all protocol variants (including Modbus/TCP), data formats, error checks, and protocol stack implementation tips.

According to the author´s experience, many Modbus user always face the same issues, with wiring, network configuration, and application software. Furthermore, it is difficult to find all needed technical documentation in comprehensive form. Therefore “Modbus the Manual” has been written by an experienced user for other users, covering all parts of the Modbus variants, with many practical examples, and without any commercial views.

“Modbus The Manual” is Rob Hulsebos´ 5th book about industrial communication, and his first in English. Rob is a software-engineer with more than 30 years of experience in industrial networks, both as a supplier and as a user, and has programmed several Modbus protocol implementations. In addition to his work at IT & OT cybersecurity company Forescout, he is publishing monthly about current developments in industrial networking and industrial cybersecurity, and regularly hosts courses on these subjects.
